2017 San Fransisco
Egyelőre képek nélkül, ahogy annak idején FB-n posztoltam őket.

2017-10-01

Arrived at San Fransisco and ready to explore! But first, on my way to the hotel. Will more properly look around tomorrow, then work from Monday!

Megérkeztem San Fransiscoba! Először is irány a hotel, aztán jöhet a felfedezés. Holnap alaposabb körülnézés, aztán hétfőtől meló!

2017-10-02

After arriving on Saturday, and spending quite some time at the airport I managed to get to the hotel by the time it opened. I took the rest of the day easy. I ordered from months ago froma shop, but my package got lost along the way and was recently returned. Turned out it actually is located here in one of the malls, so visited that. I visited some others and was surprised in how many shops I saw the Verifone MX915 (I think) terminal - never encountered it in a shop before, wow. After dinner I headed back to make a plan for Sunday. Didn't entirely went well. Wanted to visit the Alkatraz, but they were out of tickets. Muir forest also sounded nice, but would have taken the full day with just public transport. Decided to check some more regular places.

Sunday I realized the Moon Festival is held at the Chinatown. It started at 11, so after breakfast I headed there and walked around, checked the stalls, then looked for the stage.
First performance was the White Crane Lion Dance. It was really impressive, 2 people were inside each of the lions, and they were dancing and jumping around. First threw some oranges and cabbage to the crowd, then danced on top of 3 benches, which were on each other, then on some barstool like poles. Really inpressive, but also super scary.
The second performance was the Heiwas Taiko Grandmas. I was really curious about this one. They had one guest, but other than that they were truly grandmas, and their average age was 72. Even the taiko drums were made by them, out of wine barrels. They seemed to really enjoy playing and they said, they really like to do it, as it is a good excersize, improves their memory and even though most of the members already were friends, they feel even closer since. No matter where, taiko keeps being awesome!
After I went to the Coit Tower. Didn't know anything about it, just noticed it on the map and since it was half way to Pier 39, stopped there. So walking is not so easy in SF. The streets can be really steep, easily 45 degrees (wonder how some can even bike on them)! When checked on Tripadvisor, it said hours of waiting, but in the end there weren't that many and got to the top of the tower quite soon. The view was worth the wait, was really nice to see SF from above!
After I walked to Pier 39, where I quickly joined a 30min boat tour, which took us near the seals, Alcatraz, then the Golden Gate. We were shared some stories (e.g. none ever actually escaped from Alcatraz, and the main reason is actually the bay itself, it's impossible to swim in it, too cold, too rough...). Then walked around the Pier 39 a bit more, checked the seals once more, then headed to the Golden Bridge. This time I went for the buses.
The Golden Bridge is really impressive - and long. Was interesting to see how hilly the Oakland side was. Even there I saw many cyclers. After, it was rather late, so decided to go back by bus. Took me some time to find the stop, will show later why. 😉
Now back to the hotel, tomorrow back to work!
Further plan is to try out the cable cars. Too bad I missed them so far.

A nap maradékát könnyűre vettem. Wow.

A dobokat is ők maguk csinálták boros hordóból. Mindegy hol, a taiko továbbra is király!
Utána a Coit Tower kilátóhoz mentem.
Most már a hotelben, holnaptól meló. Még tervezek a kis helyi villamosokkal utazgatni, azok sajnos idáig kimaradtak.

2017-10-03

A smaller post today. Headed to the office in the morning. It is located in a really beautiful area, quite close to the Oakland Bay Bridge, which we checked out after lunch.
In the evening I went back to the hotel to leave my stuff there, then decided to check out the cable cars. I was planning to go with the Powell-Manson line, but somehow ended up boarding the Powell-Hyde one. Again, the stops are confusing, there was only like a small sticker on a pole indicating it. People living in this area must be great at hidden object games. The cable car was really fun, felt like a roller-coaster. The streets are really crazy on this line. Seats are also interesting. You can either sit in the inside, on the sides outside, or stand and hug the poles not to fall off. Here you can say when you stop, as it's not allowed to signal take off (but those wires to pull are there). These cars can't really easily stop, so they always take priority. I got off at the Lombard street to check it out. The view is really great there!

Kisebb poszt következik. Reggel a melóba mentem.
Itt aztán jók lehetnek a lakosok a rejtett tárgy játékokban.

Somehow I often make photos of strange toilets. Well, there are weird things here as well:
1.) Why is there such a big gap between the door and the door frame, that you can see in and out through it? Was strange when first encountered it at the airport, but then the same in malls, at work... just weird.
2.) The water level is so high, that you would think the pipe burst. Has its advantages - and disadvantages...
And some funny read: BuzzFeed

Valamiért le szoktam fotózni a furcsa mosdókat. Hát az ittenieknek is megvan a maga furcsasága.
2.) Miért olyen magas a vízszint, mintha csőtörés lenne? Persze megvannsk a maga előnyei - és hátrányai...
Kis jópofa olvasmány angolul: BuzzFeed

Yesterday and today adter work we went to have dinner and a beer with the colleagues. I was also planning to go to the Asian Art Museum, but when i got there, I learned that it was closed already for the day (summer late opening hours are just over). 😣 Will try tomorrow!
Also, from tomorrow it's the fleet week! They were already practicing today, we could see them from the office.

Fleet Weeks
